I’m not in the best place right now–for several reasons. It’s okay sometimes not to know, know what to say, or to have answers. As such, I don’t have many inspirational words this month. Instead, I want to get your feedback, and discover what inspiration you gain from a particular verse of scripture; it’s one of my favorites.
Psalms 103:1-5
Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
So, let’s chat. If you’re comfortable, please share your thoughts or any inspiration you received from this verse of scripture. What does it mean to you? What has God said to you through this Bible verse? What has He revealed to us about Himself in it?

I’m sorry to hear that you are not in the best place right now. I can empathize. I am also struggling.
Thank you for posting this verse! Right now, the lines that jump out at me are…He “heals all your diseases” and “redeems your life from the pit.” I could really use some healing and I feel like I need God to pull me out of the “muck and the mire.” (Psalm 40:1)
Praying that you will find peace and hope.

Thanks, hlmiller for your response. Yaaay! I’m not alone. 🙂 Same here, I would like the Lord to heal this MS disease, and He will according to this verse (if not in this life, ultimately, He will). So, that’s encouraging to know. Also, those pits could be about anything–despair, drifting away, long-awaited hopes, or pits we dug. I’m there too. Nonetheless, I’m encouraged that, if not today, someday, He’s going to deliver me (us)! Hold on!! 🙂

Hi Ellie. Thanks for sharing Psalm verses, even though you don’t feel well. The psalmist, David, is aware of bad things that afflict us, ‘sins and diseases,’ nonetheless he tells himself to praise the Lord, from the inside out, because he knows the Lord is mighty and can help us, who fear and praise Him. David won’t let evil obscure the joy he has known in communion with God and recommends praise always. As my body is in ache and pain, which has been happening a lot with me since February (my right leg and lower back; I have a bad hip), I think of God, Jesus Christ our savior, and don’t feel much like praising or praying, but I realize God knows everything I’m going through. So I pray and utter or think words of glory for Jesus. The words and deeds of Jesus in the gospels are inscribed in my heart, thanks to the Holy Spirit; He is worthy of our honor. I know you have strong faith, Ellie.

Thanks for responding Paul. You bring out a good point how David is exhorting us to praise the Lord in spite of the maladies we face, and you’re right, most times we don’t think of doing this or feel like it when we’re in pain. I like how David says, “forget not all His benefits.” 🙂 So, we may be feeling what we feel or going through some difficulty, but if we, like you, think of this and utter some words of praise, we get to the other side.
Sorry about your hip; mine bothers me only while sleeping–not walking or sitting–only sleeping. Isn’t that weird? 😦

When we look to the Lord, remember all his benefits—beginning with the ones mentioned, we look beyond ourselves and our circumstances and see Him. Praise erupts..

You have made a good analysis of this scripture, beieve4147. You are correct. Remembering the Lord and all His benefits would move us to a higher level, past the circumstances we’re facing and ourselves. Our thoughts rise to where He is to bring us through whatever we’re facing, how we’re feeling. 🙂

It is hard when suffering physically to read verses about God healing all our diseases. Job didn’t get that right away. If God always healed we would never die. If he always kept us safe the insurance actuaries would know about it and our car insurance rates would be very low for believers.
God wants us to trust him when nothing makes sense
I do know that and cling to him. The rest of making sense out of life is filled with question marks. In the ultimate eternal part of life, I have put all my eggs in “Jesus basket”

Yes, Gary, this is true. We are not always healed immediately, supernaturally, totally, or even in this life. Sometime, our healings are progressive–through surgeries, medication, or rehabilitation. The one sure hope we have is that He “heals all our diseases.” It’s our sure hope; whether on this side of heaven or not. We know we’ll be healed–someday, some way. Can’t wait for mine!!! LOL.
